A park of 16,000 square metres between the ancient via Latina and the via Appia, now via di Porta San Sebastiano, inside the Aurelian circuit. The Sovrintendenza Capitolina places it in Municipio I, Rione XIX - Celio, dates it 1928 to 1931, gives its entrances as Via di Porta Latina 10 and Via di Porta San Sebastiano, the latter currently closed, and gives the opening as 7.00 to sunset. A long central avenue runs from the via di Porta Latina entrance across the park, with tall pines and cypresses and Mediterranean planting — holm oak, laurel, myrtle — flanking the remains.

History

The Sovrintendenza Capitolina describes the park as the result of an archaeological arrangement that recovered the Colombario di Pomponio Hylas and the Sepolcro degli Scipioni, with the garden designed by Raffaele de Vico, who finished in 1931. From the seventeenth century the ground had been vineyards and kitchen gardens. In 1831 Pietro Campana discovered the Colombario di Pomponio Hylas, and from 1840 three columbaria were uncovered in the adjoining Vigna Codini. The Comune bought the archaeological zone after unification, and the X Ripartizione Antichità e Belle Arti began the full restoration of the Sepolcro in 1926.
