Chiesa di Sant'Angelo in Pescheria

The church was built in the 8th century inside the propylaeum. Pope Stephen II translated the relics of Symphorosa, Getulius and their seven sons here in 752, and the sarcophagus was found in 1610 with its inscription. In 1110 Paschal II made Saint Berard cardinal deacon of the title. From here, on Whit Sunday 1347, Cola di Rienzo set out to seize the Capitol. The chapel of Sant'Andrea was raised in 1571 as the seat of the fishmongers' company. Its altarpiece is by Giorgio Vasari; the vault fresco is not securely attributed. The organ is by Pietro Pantanella, 1877, with 25 stops, one manual and pedal, and wholly mechanical action. A Madonna and Child with angels in the church is attributed to Benozzo Gozzoli; it.wikipedia dates it 1447 to 1450 and Roma Capitale gives 1450.
