Palazzo ex Ristorante Ufficiale dell'Ente EUR
Historic site · EUR, Italy
The building designed in 1939 by Ettore Rossi to receive foreign delegations at the exposition: a rectangular block of three floors, porticoed on all four sides and faced in fluted gilt calacatta marble. It still contains the caffe Palombini.
History
Abandoned after the war, it reopened for the agricultural exposition of 1953 and was heavily altered in the 1960s, when new floors and a curtain wall replaced the original travertine facades. Two decorative works survive on the ground floor, inside what is today a commercial premises: a tempera mural by Franco Gentilini and a polychrome marble intarsia by Eugenio Fegarotti. The building housed Roma Capitale's urban-planning department until 2022, and under an agreement between EUR S.p.A. and Bulgari Gioielli it is to be regenerated as a centre for high-end craft production.
