Parco degli Eucalipti
Park · EUR, Italy
A park of 91,000 m2 along via Laurentina, holding about 860 trees, predominantly eucalyptus, laid out in terraces, belvederes, paths and raised walkways, with a dog-friendly area.
History
The wood began as eucalyptus planted in the nineteenth century by the Trappist monks of the Abbazia delle Tre Fontane, to improve the air and to make medicinal elixirs. Design of a park here began in 1938, when the site was earmarked for a Museo Coloniale, and works broke off around 1943. The present layout is by the architect Varisco, head of the Ente EUR parks office; Raffaele De Vico's post-war proposal was never carried out.
