God's Own Junkyard

God's Own Junkyard is a warehouse of over 1,500 neon pieces, among them film props and vintage signs made for fairgrounds and circuses, at Unit 12, Ravenswood Industrial Estate, Shernhall Street, E17 9HQ. The operator publishes opening as Friday 11am to 10pm, Saturday 11am to 10pm and Sunday 11am to 6pm, three days a week, and states that the Rolling Scones Cafe/Bar is open for food and drinks all weekend. Entry is free.
History
The business began in 1952 as Electro Signs, founded by Richard 'Dick' Bracey, a Welsh former miner. The collection was assembled by his son Chris Bracey, who made neon for films, and since Chris Bracey's death in November 2014 it has been run by his widow Linda Bracey and their sons Matthew, Marcus and Max. The site is an industrial unit off Shernhall Street and carries no heritage designation on the National Heritage List for England. Wood Street station, on the Weaver line, is 555 m away, and buses 20, 56, 212, 230, 257, 357, W12, W15, W16, W19 and night route N55 pass within 500 m.
