Jacobi Medical Center from the air

A hospital at 1400 Pelham Parkway South with 457 beds, one of NYC Health + Hospitals' 11 acute care facilities, serving approximately 1.2 million residents. It is a Level I Adult Trauma Center and a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, and it houses the Bronx's only burn unit.

History

Established in 1955 as the Bronx Municipal Hospital Center, it opened for pediatric and infant care on November 1, 1955 with 898 beds. Its affiliation with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine was the first time a medical school and municipal hospital entered into a formal affiliation agreement at the same time they were both built. The hospital is named for the German physician Abraham Jacobi, regarded as the father of American pediatrics.
