Le madonnelle di Testaccio
Historic site · Testaccio, Italy
Wayside shrines set at street corners in the rione. Roma Capitale's tourism service describes the one at a corner of piazza Testaccio: it is a copy of an old seventeenth-century image once kept in the church of Santa Maria Liberatrice al Foro Romano and placed in 1908 on the altar of the Testaccio church of the same name. Further shrines stand elsewhere in the rione; only this one is described here.
History
The image it copies belongs to the same transfer that carried the titulus of the demolished church at the Roman Forum to the new parish church in Testaccio.
