Nuovo Mercato Testaccio
Shop · Testaccio, Italy
The rione's covered market, open Monday to Saturday from 07.00 to 15.30, with entrances from via Beniamino Franklin, via Alessandro Volta, via Aldo Manuzio and via Lorenzo Ghiberti; the registered office is on via Lorenzo Ghiberti. The operator describes the hall in its own words as 100 banchi, 100 storie, 1000 prodotti — a hundred stalls, a hundred stories, a thousand products. The archaeological area beneath the trading floor is written separately.
History
The market moved here from piazza Testaccio in 2012, a date given independently by Roma Capitale's tourism service, by the Sovrintendenza Capitolina on its page for the Fontana delle Anfore, and by the rione article. Inti-Illimani recorded a song called El mercado Testaccio on their 1981 album Palimpsesto.
