The civic museum that encloses the Ara Pacis, on the Tiber front of the rione. Roma Capitale gives the hours as open daily 9.30 to 19.30; on 24 and 31 December 9.30 to 14.00; last admission one hour before closing.
History
The building was designed by Richard Meier & Partners Architects and replaced the 1938 pavilion by Vittorio Ballio Morpurgo in which the altar had been reassembled. The text of the bronze Res Gestae tablets from the Mausoleum of Augustus is transcribed on the museum's wall.
