Oratorio di Santa Margherita

The tower was converted to an oratory in the Middle Ages and painted with a thirteenth- to fourteenth-century fresco cycle of St Paul and St Margaret of Antioch. The cycle was discovered in 1932, detached, and is now kept in the museum of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme; a recovery project is under way with the aim of returning the frescoes in loco. A Madonna Bona lived in the tower as a recluse in the thirteenth century, and the oratory was still officiated in the seventeenth century, when Clement IX granted indulgences there. Antonio Muñoz restored it in 1914, and it was restored again in 1978.
