Piazza dei Cinquecento
Historic site · Esquilino, Italy
The square in front of Termini station, bounded by via Giovanni Giolitti, largo di Villa Peretti and via Marsala; it.wikipedia gives its surface as 45,000 square metres, citing artribune. The lead of that article places the square «al confine tra i rioni Esquilino e Castro Pretorio», so it is a straddle. The bus terminus around it is used by 25 daytime lines, including trolleybus line 90, and 13 night lines; the tram 5 and 14 terminus lies between via Cavour and via Daniele Manin.
History
The square is named for the more than five hundred Italian dead of the battle of Dogali. The main part of the rebuilt square reopened on 14 January 2025, and the works are programmed to complete in summer 2026.
