Piramide (stazione della linea B)

Historic site · Ostiense, Italy

A station on metro line B designed by Marcello Piacentini, of plain geometry roofed in white travertine slabs, with its entrance steps rising onto the piazzale di Porta San Paolo. Its platforms sit in an open cutting. A chapel dedicated to San Filippo Neri stands on the Rebibbia and Jonio platform.

History

Rolling stock of the Roma-Lido was sheltered in the unfinished station during the bombing of 1943. The station was refurbished in 1989, and in 1990 a subway to Roma Ostiense opened, with a second entrance and hall on via delle Cave Ardeatine.
