The railway station on piazza dei Cinquecento, standing in the rione Esquilino. Figures attributed to Grandi Stazioni give about 150 million visitors a year and 850 trains a day.
History
The station opened in 1863 as the Stazione Centrale delle Ferrovie Romane, was rebuilt in 1873 and rebuilt again in 1950. The present front block is by Eugenio Montuori and Annibale Vitellozzi, 1950; of Angiolo Mazzoni's scheme of the 1930s only the technical buildings were carried out.
