Porta Pinciana

One of the gates of the Aurelian Walls, standing at piazzale Brasile, where Corso d'Italia ends. Two semicircular flanking towers stand either side of the travertine arch. No visiting arrangements are published for it, so none are given here.
History
The gate was enlarged from an earlier posterula by the emperor Honorius during the restoration of 403, when the two semicircular flanking towers were added; the original travertine arch survives. It carried two earlier names: Porta Turata, because it had been walled up, and Porta Salaria Vetus, because the older via Salaria left the city here. A medieval story calls it the Porta Belisaria and has the general Belisarius begging at it; the source that reports the story says outright that it is false.
