Tempio di Antonino e Faustina (Villa Borghese)

Historic site · Pinciano, Italy

A garden folly of 1792 on the avenue named after it, built deliberately as a ruin in the English taste, with two altars carrying Greek inscriptions on either side. It shares its name with the Forum temple in the rione Campitelli and is a different building.

History

Cristoforo Unterperger designed it for Marcantonio Borghese in 1792, assembling ancient fragments to make a ruin.
