San Filippo Neri in via Giulia

The church was built for Rutilio Brandi, a glove-maker from San Gimignano who, having gout, had it dedicated to San Trofimo, protector of the gouty; the dedication later shifted to Filippo Neri. In 1797, when the French demanded money from the pope under the Treaty of Tolentino, the church's rector refused to hand over its silver reliquary. Nearly all the buildings around it were demolished from 1938, and the church survived only because the war stopped the works.
