Santi Giovanni Evangelista e Petronio dei Bolognesi

The Bolognese in Rome formed a confraternity in 1575, recognised by Gregory XIII in 1576, and built a new church in place of one that had belonged to the Spanish community. Work began in 1582 to a design by Ottaviano Nonni, il Mascherino, and finished only in the mid-seventeenth century; the façade dates from 1696–1700. The church was suppressed in 1810 and used as a warehouse, then restored in 1873 after the confraternity was re-formed. Francesco Gessi's Morte di San Giuseppe hangs on the right altar and Marcantonio Franceschini's double-sided processional painting, made for the canonisation of Catherine of Bologna in 1712, on the left. Domenichino's high altarpiece was requisitioned by Napoleon in 1813 and is now in Palazzo Barberini.
