Santissima Trinità dei Pellegrini

The church stands on the site of the older San Benedetto de Arenula, which Paul IV granted to Filippo Neri and his charity in 1558. The confraternity began rebuilding at the end of the sixteenth century under Martino Longhi the Elder and then, from 1603, Giovanni Paolo Maggi; the church was consecrated in the early seventeenth century. De Sanctis's façade, with its stucco Evangelists, followed about a century later. Antonio Sarti reworked the three chapels on each side in 1853. The church holds Guido Reni's Santissima Trinità of 1625, a marble San Matteo e l'Angelo by Jacob Cobaert and Pompeo Ferrucci, a Madonna col Bambino e santi by Cavalier d'Arpino, and the Auxilium Christianorum fresco brought from the outside wall of Palazzo Capranica.
