Santuario di San Salvatore in Lauro
Historic site · Ponte, Italy
The working sanctuary on the square of the same name, sharing a street number with the museums of the Pio Sodalizio dei Piceni but keeping its own telephone number, 066875187. Roma Capitale says to consult the official site or to telephone for mass and service times, so no clock times are given here. it.wikipedia records it as the national church of the Marchigiani in Rome and the seat of the diaconate of the same name.
History
Roma Capitale records that, according to some historical documentation, the first church here was founded by the Tiber around the year 1000 by a small order of monks, and was destroyed in barbarian raids; that it was rebuilt and enlarged in 1177 by the Celestines, devoted to San Giorgio in Alga, who held it about two hundred years; and that in 1668, after their suppression, it passed to the Pio Sodalizio dei Piceni, which instituted the cult of the Madonna di Loreto here.
