Torre del Grillo

Historic site · Monti, Italy

A tower also called «della Miliziola», built in 1223 by the Carboni family on Trajanic remains and later absorbed into the left wing of the Palazzo del Grillo.

History

Roma Capitale records that the del Grillo family bought it in 1675 and added the corbelled crown, the corner eagles and the inscription EX MARCHIONE DE GRILLIS. It passed to the Nicolis de Robilant in the 1800s. After the Second World War it housed Renato Guttuso's studio, and its hanging garden lies behind his La visita della sera of 1980 and Giardino di Palazzo del Grillo of 1981.
