Basilica di San Saba

The church the rione is named for, on the Piccolo Aventino, served by a Jesuit community that lives in the adjoining monastery. The parish gives its address as Parrocchia San Saba, Piazza Gian Lorenzo Bernini 20, 00153 Roma. The parish office is inside the basilica, through the door at the end of the right-hand nave, with an entrance on Via di San Saba; it can also be reached from the rear entrance at Piazza Gian Lorenzo Bernini 20. The parish gives the basilica as open Monday to Saturday 08.00 to 12.00 and 16.00 to 19.30, and Sunday and solemnities 09.00 to 13.00 and 16.00 to 19.30; the parish office Monday to Friday 10.00 to 12.00; the Rosary daily at 18.00; and Mass on weekdays at 09.00 and 18.30 and on Sundays and solemnities at 10.30, 12.00 and 18.30. History

it.wikipedia's article on the rione records that hermits settled here on the ruins of what was probably the statio of the fourth cohort of the vigiles, and that in the eighth century monks from the community founded at Jerusalem by St Sabas took the site and founded a monastery. Its holdings included the castles of Marino and Palo. The community passed from the Benedictines to the Cluniacs, then to the Cistercians, and from 1573 to the Collegio Germanico-Ungarico under the Jesuits, who hold it today. The monastery is the same complex as the church and is not written here as a separate place.
