Casa di Fiammetta

Historic site · Ponte, Italy

A Renaissance house on the small square that carries its owner's name, at the corner of via della Maschera d'Oro and via degli Acquasparta.

History

it.wikipedia records that the house belonged to Fiammetta Michaelis, the Florentine courtesan and favourite of the humanist Cardinal Giacomo Ammannati Piccolomini, and that she inherited the cardinal's estate on his death in 1479 - a bequest Sixtus IV blocked, appointing a commission.
