Basilica dei Santi Pietro e Paolo

The architects were Arnaldo Foschini, Alfredo Energici, Vittorio Grassi, Nello Ena, Tullio Rossi and Costantino Vetriani. The design was approved in September 1938 and the foundation stone laid in spring 1939; work slowed in the war and stopped after a bombardment in 1943, resumed in 1953, and the church opened for worship in July 1955. It became a parish in December 1958, received a cardinalatial title on 5 February 1965, was dedicated in June 1966 and was given the title of minor basilica in 1967. Venanzo Crocetti's marble high relief Conversione di Saulo, of 1941, is on the flank, and the organ was built in 1960 by Libero Rino Pinchi and enlarged in 1990 by Carlo Soracco. The parish's own history records the founding fact of the whole quartiere: about 400 hectares of land belonging to the Trappist monks of the Abbazia delle Tre Fontane were expropriated to build E42, and the Ente autonomo E42 was created by law n. 2174 of 26 December 1936 with senator Vittorio Cini as Commissario Generale.
