History

Publio Morbiducci's travertine bas-relief La storia di Roma attraverso le opere edilizie stands over the principal entrance, and Giorgio Quaroni's La fondazione di Roma, painted between September 1939 and January 1940, is in the Sala Quaroni on the first floor. On the second basement level Minnucci built an air-raid shelter: a reinforced-concrete volume of about 475 m2, isolated from the rest of the building by a cavity of 125 cm, with metal gas-proof doors and a twin dynamo driven by two tandem bicycles to run its ventilation and lighting.
