Gallery of the Geographical Maps

A gallery 120 metres long and 6 metres wide, hung with forty cartographic representations of the Italian territories and the dominions of the Church, on the Vatican Museums itinerary and covered by the Museums ticket. Thirty-two maps of territories are aligned north to south and divided conceptually by the Apennines, and eight narrower maps at the ends show the Siege of Malta, the Battle of Lepanto, Elba, the Tremiti Islands and the ports of Civitavecchia, Genoa, Venice and Ancona. The ceiling carries 51 painted panels in stucco frames.
