Madama Lucrezia

Historic site · Pigna, Italy

A marble bust standing to the left of the entrance to the basilica of San Marco, at the Palazzo di San Marco, and one of the Roman talking statues.

History

The Sovrintendenza Capitolina describes it as possibly a portrait of Faustina, and as coming from the Temple of Isis. It records that the bust has been publicly displayed at the Palazzo di San Marco since the fifteenth century, and counts it among the Congresso degli arguti alongside the Fontana del Facchino.
