Oratorio del Gonfalone

Roma Capitale records that the oratory was built between 1544 and 1547 over the church of Santa Lucia Vecchia for the Arciconfraternita del Gonfalone, whose origins go back to the thirteenth century and whose Compagnia was officially recognised by a Breve of Clement IV in 1267. The two-order facade is by Domenico Castelli. The rectangular sixteenth-century interior carries a Storie della Passione di Cristo cycle in twelve episodes, from the entry into Jerusalem to the Resurrection, painted between 1569 and 1576 by Federico Zuccari, Cesare Nebbia and Livio Agresti, under a carved wooden ceiling of 1568 by Ambrogio Bonazzini. it.wikipedia records that the adjoining Palazzo del Gonfalone, between via del Gonfalone and via Giulia, was the juvenile prison established by Leo XII in 1827.
