Casa di Diana
Historic site · Ostia Antica, Italy
An apartment block on Via di Diana, perhaps five storeys when it was built, with shops along the street front and a porticoed courtyard at the centre.
History
Built under Hadrian, in the first half of the second century AD. Black-and-white geometric mosaics survive from the first phase; a marble fountain was added to the courtyard in the second half of the second century and the surviving wall paintings date from the end of it. The floors were raised and re-mosaiced through the third century, and a mithraeum was installed in the inner rooms in the late phase.
