Palazzo Patrizi Montoro and the Pinacoteca del Tesoriere

The origin is a modest house bought in 1512 by Gaspero dei Garzoni of Jesi from Alfonsina Orsini. In 1605 Olimpia Aldobrandini bought it together with an adjoining building of the Arciconfraternita della Carita and the Ospedale della Consolazione and had the two joined; the facade was finished in 1611. The palace was sold in 1642 to the Patrizi, a Sienese family in Rome from 1537, and through Maria Virginia's marriage in 1726 to Giovanni Chigi Montoro the line became the marchesi Patrizi Naro Montoro. Sebastiano Cipriani altered it in the early eighteenth century, further work followed in 1747, and Luigi Moneti renovated it in 1823. It has three storeys and a mezzanine plus a nineteenth-century addition, and an off-centre portal with two brackets carrying the stars and embattled band of the Aldobrandini arms, repeated on the windows and the cornice.
