Palazzo Sacchetti

Roma Capitale records that Antonio da Sangallo the Younger, 1483 to 1546, designed and built the palace and lived in it; the inscription to the left of the balcony reads Domus Antonii Sangalli Architecti - MDXLIII. On Sangallo's death it was sold to the Ricci di Montepulciano, who had Nanni di Baccio Bigio restructure and enlarge it, and it was sold to the Marchesi Sacchetti in 1648. The Salone dell'Udienza carries Francesco Salviati's Storie di David, 1553 to 1554; the Salone dei mappamondi holds two late seventeenth-century globes by the cosmographer Vincenzo Coronelli; the Galleria has Pietro da Cortona's Sacra Famiglia and Adamo ed Eva; and a sixteenth-century fountain with a putto between dolphins stands at the corner with vicolo del Cefalo.
