Ponte Neroniano

Historic site · Ponte, Italy

The remains of the Neronian or Triumphal bridge, which carried the ancient Via Triumphalis across the Tiber. A pier stub survives in the river.

History

it.wikipedia records that the bridge was built under Nero in the first century to improve links with his property on the right bank, including his mother Agrippina's villa, and that an attribution to Caligula has also been argued. The date of its destruction is unknown; it may have gone out of use when the Aurelian Walls were built.
