Piazza di Ponte Sant'Angelo
Historic site · Ponte, Italy
The square at the left-bank head of Ponte Sant'Angelo. Roma Capitale's street register records the square as lying in Ponte alone, although the bridge itself lies in two rioni.
History
it.wikipedia's article on the rione records that condemned prisoners were led here in procession and that a gallows stood in this square. The prisons that supplied it, the Carceri di Tor di Nona, stood along what is now lungotevere Tor di Nona and have left nothing standing.
