Fonte di Anna Perenna

A votive fountain of the fourth century BC dedicated to the goddess Anna Perenna, rectangular, built in tufa blocks and brick, with an altar, found at a depth of between 6.2 and 10.3 metres below street level. It is in the care of the Soprintendenza Speciale and is visited on guided tours by booking.
History
It was discovered in 1999 during works for a car park in the quartiere Parioli, at via Guidubaldo del Monte, which runs off piazza Euclide, and it had remained in use until the sixth century AD. The find fixed the site of the sacred grove of Anna Perenna that Ovid names in the Fasti, and produced an exceptional quantity of evidence for magical practice over many centuries. The material from the adjoining cistern is displayed at the Terme di Diocleziano, in the rione Castro Pretorio.
