Ponte Salario
Historic site · Parioli, Italy
The bridge that carries via Salaria over the Aniene, the last bridge the Aniene passes under before it joins the Tiber. It stands in the quartieri Parioli and Trieste and in the zona Val Melaina. It was rebuilt in 1930.
History
Ancient writers name the bridge repeatedly. Livy, in Ab Urbe condita VII.9, places the Gauls camped three miles from Rome on the via Salaria beyond the bridge over the Aniene; Hannibal camped on the plain before it in 211 BC; Ricimer halted there in 472 and Witiges in 537; and it was badly damaged in 544.
