Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone

A concert complex of three lead-clad halls arranged around an open-air cavea, with a walkable terrace running round the whole. The operator gives the Sala Santa Cecilia 2,744 seats, the Sala Sinopoli 1,133, the Sala Petrassi 673 and the Teatro Studio Borgna 300; the Cavea takes 3,000 to 5,000 and the Giardini pensili Claudio Abbado cover 38,000 square metres. Its published hours are October to March, 11:00 to 20:00, and 11:00 to 20:00 on Sundays and holidays; April to October, 11:00 to 20:00, and 10:00 to 20:00 on Sundays and holidays. On days with a show in the Cavea the Auditorium closes at 16:00.

History

Renzo Piano designed it and it was built between 1995 and 2002 on a site of 55,000 square metres. It opened on 21 April 2002 with the Sala Sinopoli, and the rest of the complex and the Sala Santa Cecilia followed on 21 December 2002 with the orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia under Chung Myung-whun. Rome's city council named it for Ennio Morricone by a resolution in 2020. The Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia has held its concert season here since 2003, the Fondazione Musica per Roma manages the site, and the Festa del Cinema di Roma has been held here since 2006. The complex also holds the AuditoriumGarage exhibition space of 655 square metres, the 200 square metre AuditoriumArte, and a permanent sound installation, the Sound Corner. A Roman villa came to light during the building works in 1995 and its remains stand on the same site, adjoining the complex.
