Santa Lucia del Gonfalone

A church with a two-order façade and a single nave with three chapels a side, holding a sixteenth-century Madonna del Gonfalone panel and a wooden crucifix over the high altar. The altar was built by Giuseppe Rinaldi about the middle of the nineteenth century and holds a copy of the Salus Populi Romani traditionally given to Livio Agresti. History

The church is attested between the late twelfth and the early thirteenth century and was entrusted in the sixteenth century to the Arciconfraternita del Gonfalone, which restored it in 1511 and 1603. Marco David rebuilt it in late-Baroque form between 1761 and 1764. Its present appearance comes from the complete nineteenth-century rebuilding by Francesco Azzurri under Pius IX, with decoration by Cesare Mariani between 1863 and 1867. The confraternity's own oratory stands in Rione V Ponte.
