Villa Wolkonsky
Historic site · Esquilino, Italy
The official residence of the British Ambassador to Italy, on a property covering nearly five hectares of the Esquiline hill, just inside the Aurelian Walls. No source states an access policy for it, so no visiting arrangements are given here.
History
The grounds contain thirty-six arches of the aqueduct of Nero, built by the emperor as a spur off the Aqua Claudia of AD 52 to bring water from Subiaco to the Domus Aurea and to the nymphaeum by the temple of the Divine Claudius. Roman tombs are also present in the grounds.
