Torre dei Capocci
Historic site · Monti, Italy
A square brick tower of thirty-six metres on piazza di San Martino ai Monti, seven floors above a ground floor and a terrace.
History
Roma Capitale says it was built by the Arcioni and later held by the Capocci. The upper brick section is original and dates to the late twelfth century, its brick taken from the Terme di Traiano. The houses around it were demolished at the end of the nineteenth century, which is why the colour of the masonry changes at third-floor level. The Comune describes the tower as «di proprietà del Comune di Roma, attualmente non visitabile all'interno» — owned by the Comune di Roma and not at present visitable inside.
