Chiesa evangelica battista di via del Teatro Valle

The Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention bought a property adjoining the Teatro Valle in 1878, with funds raised among American Baptist congregations, and the church was inaugurated with a service on Sunday 2 November 1878. After 1870 the Board had sent William Nelson Cote to Italy; a Baptist church opened at via della Croce 39 in 1871, but landlords repeatedly moved the community on, and under Georg Boardman Taylor it took a large hall in the former Caffe Cesano at piazza Montecitorio 17 in 1874 and began raising money for a building of its own. The premises had belonged, with the Teatro Valle and Palazzo Capranica alla Valle of 1530, to a single Capranica property running from Piazza Sant'Andrea della Valle to Piazza Sant'Eustachio, and were probably stables or coach houses.
