Palazzo Baldassini and the Istituto Luigi Sturzo

Sangallo built it for the jurist Melchiorre Baldassini, of Neapolitan origin, a reader in civil law at the Sapienza, consistorial advocate and advocate of the poor, who took part in the Fifth Lateran Council in 1512. The painted decoration is by the School of Raphael, with Perin del Vaga, Giovanni da Udine, Polidoro da Caravaggio and Maturino named; the Giovanni da Udine room was frescoed between 1517 and 1519, while the palace was still being built. The plan runs on an axis from the street through a vestibulum and an atrium courtyard to a viridarium at the back, behind a Florentine Renaissance facade.
