Ross Alley

Wikipedia records that the alley was laid out in 1849 beside the house of the merchant Charles L. Ross, from whom the name comes, and that it was formerly Stout's Alley, for Dr Arthur Breese Stout, who bought that house. Iron doors on the alley's gambling establishments were banned by city ordinance in 1889. SF Planning dates Nos. 8-14 to 1906, Nos. 20 and 22-24 to 1907, No. 35 to 1910 and Nos. 41-53 to 1908.
