Ingressi monumentali di Villa Borghese

Six monumental gateways survive around Villa Borghese. The Portale Flaminio Ponzio of 1609 is on via Pinciana near number 67, arched and armorial, built by Flaminio Ponzio as the main entrance and moved back between 1910 and 1912 when via Pinciana was widened. The Propilei delle aquile of 1790, by Antonio Asprucci, first stood at the Muro Torto entrance and were moved to Porta Pinciana in 1933; they now front piazzale San Paolo del Brasile. The Propilei neoclassici, completed in 1827 by Luigi Canina on ancient Greek models, stand at piazzale Flaminio. The seventeenth-century Portale del leone on via P. Raimondi, attributed to Flaminio Ponzio, keeps its lion protome above the keystone and gives on to the Parco dei Daini. The Portale del drago of 1617 on via Pinciana carries the Borghese dragon under a pediment. The Portale dei vasi was moved in 1914 from Porta Pinciana to the entrance of the zoological garden on via Ulisse Aldrovandi.
