A palace adjoining Palazzo Madama, joined to it by a two-storey portico, which houses offices and standing committees of the Senato della Repubblica and belongs to the Senate. It is recorded in the rione's own monument list on corso del Rinascimento, and it is a different building from the Palazzo Carpegna of the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca, which stands in rione Trevi.
History
It was built, probably at the end of the seventeenth century, to a design by Giovanni Antonio De Rossi for the Tuscan Baldinotti family, and Cardinal Giovanni Francesco Albani lived here until his election as Clement XI. It passed to the Carpegna by marriage. The Italian State bought it in 1919 and joined it to the Palazzo della Sapienza by a temporary flyover, making it the university's Faculty of Letters and Philosophy. It was partly demolished in 1935 for the cutting of Corso del Rinascimento and then rebuilt on a set-back line.
