Palazzo Maccarani Stati

The design draws on a simplified version of Bramante's Palazzo Caprini. The ground floor is rusticated, with a portal between rusticated pilasters under a triangular tympanum and four carriage doors; above it a mezzanine of four plain-framed windows, then five first-floor windows with alternating segmental and triangular pediments and five second-floor windows under flattened arches. The scheme continues on the via dei Caprettari and via del Teatro Valle elevations, and a nineteenth-century storey was added on the right. The asymmetrical courtyard has three arches on pilasters with Doric pilaster strips, an Ionic loggia above and Corinthian columns on the second level. Restorations followed in 1972 and 2001; the second uncovered painted decoration that Giuseppina Magnanimi attributed to Perin del Vaga and his shop, dated between 1543 and 1551.
