History
The foundation stone was laid on Thursday 18 July 1929 at a ceremony led by Cardinal Basilio Pompilj, and the architect Enrico Castelli built the church in 1929 as the church of the adjoining Carmelite convent. The whole complex was sold to the Comboni missionaries in 1958. The church became a parish on 7 January 1963 by the decree Percrescente incolarum numero, its territory taken from the parishes of San Roberto Bellarmino and Sacro Cuore Immacolato di Maria, and the interior was restored at that time. John Paul II visited on 6 November 1988, and a relic of the heart of St Aloysius Gonzaga was enthroned on 13 March 2012. A side chapel holds a fresco of St Thomas painted by Kiko Arguello in 1993.
