Basilica di San Marco Evangelista al Campidoglio
Historic site · Pigna, Italy
A basilica standing against the flank of Palazzo Venezia, on piazza San Marco. It stands in Pigna; the Campidoglio in its name is a dedication and not a statement about which rione it is in. The travertine pine-cone fountain and the talking statue Madama Lucrezia both stand outside it.
History
it.wikipedia records that the basilica was founded in 336 by Pope Mark, appears as Titulus Marci in the synod acts of 499, and gained its Renaissance benediction loggia under Paul II in 1465 to 1470.
