The National Maritime Museum stands on Romney Road at SE10 9NF and opens daily 10am to 5pm, last entry 4.15pm, except on 24, 25 and 26 December. Entry is free and the operator recommends booking. Yinka Shonibare's Nelson's Ship in a Bottle stands outside the museum on its south side, having earlier been a temporary Fourth Plinth commission in Trafalgar Square.
History
The museum building is Grade I listed, NHLE 1211481, first listed on 8 June 1973, at national grid reference TQ 38711 77697. The forecourt railings and gates are Grade II, NHLE 1211484, and the east wall, railings and gates NHLE 1290310. The museum sits inside the 109.51-hectare core area of the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site, NHLE 1000096.
