The Royal Observatory stands on Blackheath Avenue inside Greenwich Park at SE10 8XJ and is operated by Royal Museums Greenwich. It opens daily except on 24, 25 and 26 December: 10am to 6pm in September, with last entry at 5pm, and 10am to 5pm for the rest of the year, with last entry at 4.15pm. Admission is £24 for an adult, £12 for a child aged 4 to 15 and £18 for a student, and under-4s are free.
History
The observatory's buildings carry six list entries. Flamsteed House is Grade I, NHLE 1358976, first listed on 8 June 1973 at TQ 38847 77335; the former Great Equatorial Building is Grade I, NHLE 1078998; the Transit House Grade I, NHLE 1220877; the wall and clock to the right of the entrance gates Grade I, NHLE 1220888; the South Building Grade II, NHLE 1244325; and the Altazimuth Pavilion Grade II, NHLE 1031860, added on 21 August 2002. The observatory is also a scheduled monument covering 0.53 hectares, NHLE 1002036, its entry amended on 9 October 2024; scheduled monuments carry no grade. The Grade II statue of General Wolfe, NHLE 1358977, listed on 8 June 1973, stands immediately east of the observatory.
