Old Royal Naval College

The Old Royal Naval College is a group of four quarters on the Greenwich riverside, addressed by the operator at SE10 9NN. The Painted Hall, the Chapel and the visitor centre open daily 10am to 5pm, and the grounds daily 8am to 11pm. The grounds are free; general admission to the Painted Hall is £19 for adults and free for children age 16 and under, up to four children with a paying adult. Talks about the Painted Hall take place every half hour from 11am to 4pm. The operator gives Greenwich station as an 11-minute walk and Maze Hill as 15 minutes, both served by Southeastern and Thameslink.
History
The four quarters are separately Grade I listed, all first listed on 8 June 1973: King William's, NHLE 1211426, which contains the Painted Hall; Queen Mary's, NHLE 1211384, which contains the Chapel; King Charles, NHLE 1211337; and Queen Anne's, NHLE 1290044. The west entrance gates, piers and lodges are Grade I, NHLE 1078973, and the east gate lodges NHLE 1358993. The site overlies the remains of Greenwich Palace, a scheduled monument of 10.22 hectares, NHLE 1410710, scheduled on 22 March 2013; a second scheduled monument, Greenwich Hospital (RN College), NHLE 1002037, is a legacy point entry covering 0.0025 hectares at TQ 38503 77929. Wikidata gives an inception date of 1696 and places the college in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Sir James Thornhill designed the Painted Hall's scheme and painted it between 1707 and 1726; the operator states that it features more than 3,700 square metres of Baroque walls and ceilings with 200 figures including kings, queens and mythological creatures.
