Catacomba dei Giordani

It is datable between the second half of the third century and the first half of the fifth, on inscriptions carrying the extreme dates 269 and 436, and is named for the Giordani, the family that owned the ground. Marcantonio Boldetti and Giovanni Marangoni brought it to light in 1720 and took it for the catacomb of Trasone; the identification was settled by the 1966 excavations of the Pontificia Commissione di Archeologia Sacra, above all by the finding of the tomb of the martyr Alexander, whom several historical sources place in coemeterio Iordanorum.
